Biodiversity boost in countryside near Bern

Wohlen, a large rural community near Bern, has won the WWF’s prestigious biodiversity prize. Wohlen’s extensive programme to promote flora and fauna was achieved on a small budget with the help of volunteers. Farming methods have changed, rivers have been renaturalised and reeds grown for wading birds. Even the cemetery has thrown off its straightjacket to become a wildlife oasis.
