Classical music boosts Gstaad’s summer income

On average, Swiss ski resorts generate at least two-thirds of their annual income in winter. Gstaad is an exception. Nearly 40 per cent of its turnover is made in summer, thanks to major events like the Menuhin classical music festival.

When the festival started in the mountain resort 55 years ago, there were just a few hundred visitors. These days about 20,000 tickets are sold every year, generating around SFr9 million ($9.2 million) for the region. (Julie Hunt/swissinfo.ch)
