The epidemic that never happened

25 years ago the Swiss government launched its first campaign to counter the growing number of Aids cases in the country. Over the years, the Federal Health Office has invested a total of SFr80 million in TV slots and posters.

Switzerland is believed to be the only country to have kept Aids awareness campaigns running constantly over 25 years. But despite that there are currently 25,000 people living with HIV in Switzerland, proportionately more per head of population than in France and Germany. In France, an estimated 150,000 are infected, and in Germany 67,000 people. Nevertheless, the Federal Health Office says its campaign has been a big success. (Julie Hunt/SF/swissinfo.ch)
